RESEARCH - Analysing costume, setting and location of existing music videos

As music videos are a short media text of around just 3 minutes involving consistent obvious edits, this makes it easy at a fast flowing pace for the eye and therefore the audience sometimes do not get the opportunity to recognize changes of mise en scene throughout such as: Location, costume and setting.

There are usually a variety of these locations, costumes and settings which come together to create an overall feel for the video and it's genre.

I analysed a few music videos to discover the amount of mise en scene variety in a conventional video.

For example:
Ariana Grande - Baby I 
Genre = Pop

6 Locations
- Sunset rooftop



- Street


 - Scaffolding
Pool Party


- Bus

4 costume changes

Although there are SEVERAL location/costume changes, and many different props used, the video still has an overall strong theme. All mise en scene changes work together and create an upbeat style relating to the music genre POP.
