[Research] Cross Media Products & Synergy

Many artists today use synergy by branding different media products related to their work. They may incorporate the same elements, colours or graphic elements across more than one of their products. This helps the audience make a connection between these elements, and potentially form a larger fan base.

One very good example of this is Miley Cyrus.

This is the art work for her latest album, Bangerz. Here, very soft and mellow colours are used such as pink, purple and light blue. She is wearing golden jewellery and red lipstick and those are two predominant elements which are featured across many of her marketing products.

Here is the music video for her first single from Bangerz

We can see that the music video uses a similar colour scheme as in this picture, blood is presented as pink, which is also a colour on the album.

From this image, we can see that Miley is wearing the same type of golden jewellery that she has on the album cover.

In the music videos for her first two singles from the album, she is wearing red lipstick and has her hair styled in a similar way - this is a reoccurring element in many of her products.

In both her music video for We Can't Stop and her controversial VMA performance, she uses bears as props, which further helps the audience make a connection between these products.
