[Planning] Analysis of Original Video

This is the original video that Nina Nesbitt posted on her VEVO account for our chosen song 'Just Before Goodbye'

- The video shown resembles a live performance, rather than a narrative (apart from a few cutaways which are presented as flashbacks - props such as a cup and a phone are used)
- The original video follows the conventions of indie rock music even though it's pop - there are shots of her and her band playing instruments, she in singing into the microphone
- Laura Mulvey's Male Gaze theory can't be applied here as she's not a passive female figure in any way, and neither does she look promiscuous
- According to Andrew Goodwin, this would be an example of disjuncture as the video has little connection to the lyrics she is singing
- The video still follows typical conventions, as stated by Carol Vernallis, such as her looking directly into the camera and obvious edits that lack continuity. The editing pace is quick as it has been edited to the beat of the song (editing has a rhythmic basis)
- It's a very simple video as there is only one location and no costume changes
- Nina's appearance is similar to the way she looks on her EP cover - she is wearing red lipstick and her hair is styled in the same way - this is an example of synergy which allows the audience to link the two products together, making them more memorable

- Our video will have a completely different style - we're planning to film it outside, in natural lighting and here it seems more dark since it's in a studio
- Apart from a guitar, we won't have any other instruments in our video like she does
- The only character in our music video will be me
- In Nina's video there are no costume changes, but we're planning to include a few
- There will be no narrative - just different shots of the performance
- While at some points Nina's video has a black and white filter added, ours will have a vintage feel and the colours will be more yellow toned and slightly faded
- Our music video will be much more light and happy in comparison to this - we plan to include the beautiful scenery in Richmond and film our base tracks there
