Planning: Final Song Choice - A big change!

Just like in the real music industry, it is a creative environment where ideas are developed everyday, so things from my last blog post have slightly changed - As stated in my previous blog post, we shortlisted our songs & chose Jessie J Daydreaming - However, after choosing a performer for our student video, we hit a dilemma.

We didn't believe that the song style and artist it was produced by was very comparable to our performer to-be Eli. The tone of voice didn't necessarily suit Eli and therefore wouldn't look realistic with base track lip syncing, making for an amateur looking video (which we clearly don't want).

You can tell from these images alone that our performer is very contrasting to Jessie J and her overall style of music/appearance.

It would be hard to create a whole new image for a song with such specific style and vibe already, the video could risk not matching the audio - which music videos are obviously meant to do!

Instead of simply choosing a song that we enjoy listening to the most, we had to go on the potential for a successful music video! Thinking ahead of camera shots/angles, editing styles, and much more.

So.. Back to the drawing board we went, looking at our shortlist again. We have now decided on Nina Nesbitt's 'Just Before Goodbye'.

We chose it because...

  • It has a VERY suitable tone & voice for our performer.
  • We like the structure of the audio, it starts quite slow and very subtle then builds a beat during the bridges and chorus' - Therefore we could slow down and increase our editing pace throughout which is conventional of music video's an is very visually pleasing.
  • The song doesn't have an existing video, so we will not be bias or tempted by the influence of the original. It will bring out our creativity in location, costume, and structure as we have nothing to base it on.
  • Eli who will be performing has a suitable appearance for the genre of Indie Pop, which we could further enhance with makeup, costume, and props
