Research- previous student music video analysis.

Analysis
I have chosen to analyse my personal favorite music video, this was a music video for a song by Katy B, called 'Disappear'

Narrative

Despite some aspects of amplification (pad locks, artist 'disappearing'), th
is music video is disjuncture, it focuses on the main artist herself. The way in which they have used base tracks in this video struck me as very clever, just a small change in location has been really effective, due to the performer, and the camera shots being done so well/consistently. The visuals matched the beat of the song, slow motion and quicker cuts have been used to match the music.
Genre/audience
The genre of this song is Dubstep/R&B, it has a recognizable
tone which would appeal to an audience who like this genre.
The core audience for this video is young females, I feel they would relate to the lyrics more than anyone else, and would perhaps see the main artist in the video as a role model. This is because she is not aiming to attract a male gaze.
Challenging Mulvey's theory
The artist is wearing smart but casual clothing, she isn't wearing a revealing outfit which is common in many music videos. I like the fact this video is challenging Laura Mulvey's theory. Although there are some tilts when filming the artist, and she is wearing pink lipstick, these are only very slight forms of the male gaze theory.

I also like the way in which they chose to film when it is dark, as the artist stands out even more, making her appear superior and confident.
