Research-Andrew Goodwin's theory.

Andrew Goodwin's theory

Andrew Goodwin's book; ‘Dancing in the Distraction Factory’ was published on January 1st 1992. From the book we learn his view towards music videos. Goodwin believes that traditional narrative analysis cannot be applied to modern pop videos, this is because:

1:Music videos are based on the song, usually withut a traditional narrative structure       2: In music videos the artist can be both the narrator and a character       3: Artists often make direct eye contact with the camera to engage the audience

There are three types of relations between songs and videos:

1:Illustration which means to literally tell the story of the song; dance can be used to illustrate moods
2: Amplification  is when the video of a song introduces new elements which add to its layers of meaning, but don’t contradict the lyrics 3: Disjuncture  is when there is the video lacks connection with the lyrics
